Unclaimed money in old payroll checks, insurance policies, and more are in the hands of the government according to NAUPA. Search online for FREE to see if you or someone you know has missing money. It's not a difficult process, and it's cost-free to do a simple search. Here's how!

Using three columns on the page, begin making lists. Write your name, and names you've ever gone by in the first column. Females should include maiden names, and married names. In column two, list all the places you've ever lived. In the last column, write any family members who have died.

The www.missingmoney.com website allows you free unlimited searches for missing money that the government is holding. Just click on the map to get started. The database is updated regularly, and they are endorsed by the NAUPA. Click on a state, to begin your search. What a wonderful surprise it would be to actually find money waiting for you, right?

If you find money that you believe is yours, follow the online instructions, and begin the claim process. Your claim form will come in the mail. Keep the lists you wrote, and put them inside a file folder.

Once you get your form, you might be asked to provide a copy of state issued identification, along with any documents relating to the claim. Many times, the government can determine you are the rightful owner of unclaimed money based on the information you submit. Submit your papers, even if you don't have all the documents they are asking for.

While you're waiting to get approved, make copies of your claim form, and put it in a file. You should get your check in a few months.

If you don't claim your money, or if the person owing you the money can't reach you, then more than likely the government will be holding it for you. Either you or someone in your family can now claim it. Good luck on your money search!
