I started reducing my food costs because I realized that what I spend on food is a considerable part of my budget. I needed to start eating at home and though you might or might not know that- this article can help you put it into practice. If you are willing to work a little harder.

You have to figure out where the cheapest and best places are to shop. You might have to try a few different places and places you might normally overlook to find the best deals on food. Don't go to the same store just because you've shopped there for years. You might be missing some great deals and spending more than you need to.

You need to check the fliers for all the store you want to shop at. You can check whats on sale and then plan a great menu. Make a menu based on the sales and this one tip will save you hundreds, maybe even over a thousand dollars every year. Plus menus make your life easier during the week. Its a no lose situation.

So you check the fliers. Well, if you need a little extra help one of the best ways to plan a menu based on whats on sale is to keep a master list of recipes. It's simple and its a great reference for when you are looking at the sales and you can't figure out what to make. You try a new recipes sometimes and forget about it, but if you put it on your list, you know it will make it into the rotation.

Make a master list of recipes and then have different sections for each type of recipe or food like vegetarian, soups, side dishes, chicken, etc. So let's say ground beef is available at a great sale price, then you just look at your list of ground beef recipes and pick one or two that sound good to you and put it on your menu.

I think it is important to have a determined attitude about saving money especially when it comes to saving money on food. It will take effort, but that effort is so worth it and you will only continue to reap benefits the longer you put forth that effort. Nothing worth having comes free.

Eat less food. Yep. Most of us could stand to eat less and you will save money doing this. Don't polish off the pot roast and you now have leftovers for tomorrows lunch. A free meal philosophically speaking.

Don't be afraid of simple filling meals. The less ingredients you have to buy will the less money you will spend. And even if you like to cook it will be less stressful. And if you don't like to cook, then this will make it easier to cook at home and avoid the temptation of eating out.
