Do you have a set of written goals? Today is the day to write them down and clarify them.

Think of a time in your life when you achieved something you really wanted. Did you doubt it would happen and believe that you could not achieve it? Or did you have a solid sense of knowing that it would happen and doubt never entered into your mind?

Folks who succeed have are sure they will get there and reach success. You have to be the same way, as you go after your goals. Don't even entertain the possibility of failing. Approach your goals with positive expectation. This will move you progressively towards your goals.

Visualizing your goals as reality is one way to develop this strong belief.

Most of us visualize already. We just don't realize it. Have you ever rehearsed something in your head before even doing it?

That is the power of visualization, and it is very potent. You can use it not only for your goals, but for any aspect of your life. Visualisation is something most people are unused to directing. You will find initially that your attention will wander, but you have to pull it back to the task at hand. It is similar to building a muscle up through exercise - it takes time to strengthen it.

Here is how to do it.

The first step is to decide on a goal you want to accomplish.

Second, imagine it in your head.

Next, use visualization to put yourself in the experience of having already achieved it. Use all 5 senses. Make it seem as reall as possible.

Fourth, spend at least ten minutes being there. If doubtful thoughts present themselves, eliminate them and stay positive. If you find yourself drifting to other thoughts, simply bring yourself back into this movie.

Remember this movie throughout your day. In life, we get what we think about all day long. If we can keep our mind on what it will feel like after we have reached our goals, the universe will get us there. What we are really doing here is installing software on our brain that will program us for success.

All goals are different, but some of them should be kept private. Friends and family, while they mean well, tend to say things that cause us to lose our belief and confidence in achieving our goals. This gets in the way lots of time.

Don't let the discouraging feedback of those around you come into this equation. Keep your goals to yourself. It will be fun to see their reaction and hear their feedback upon seeing you reach those goals. Show them. Don't tell them.

Affirming Success

Acknowledging your success simply means telling our subconscious mind that we WILL get there. We must repeat it often and our brain will start to believe it.

An affirmation is a sentence or two that is written in a positive language with definite targets and timescales. A bad affirmation would be "I want to lose some weight." Your subconscious looks at this and since there is no timescale it will not leap into action. There is also no definite target so your subconscious does not know what to aim for. How is "some weight" defined? It is 10 pounds, but also 1 pound and also just 1 ounce.

A good affirmation is "I want to lose 10 pounds by the end of this year." This sends the right messages to your subconscious. It knows that you exactly how much you have to lose (10 pounds) and when this must be done by (the end of this year). You know precisely what you have to do and when it has to be done by.

Next we must write down the plan or action steps we will take to accomplish the goal we wrote down and instructed our mind on. Then we should divide those action steps into daily actions.

Small Steps

It is okay to have big dreams like wanting to be a millionaire by the age of 40.

The problem is that this can actually de-motivate you, because it is overwhelming. The trick is to divide it into small steps that you can believe you can achieve each week.

Mega goals are great, but it is important to divide them down unto smaller, realistic goals and assign them action steps to accomplish.

Our mind can grasp the small steps and believe in our ability to get there. These small wins go a long way towards building our belief level.

All of your major goals and their associated sub-goals and action plans need to be regularly reviewed - ideally daily. This ensures you remain focussed on your goals and instantly know if you start to drift away from your target. It allows you to adjust your goals and action plan according to whether things are working quicker or slower than planned. It also prevents you from repeating actions and carrying out tasks that are not necessary. It keeps the goals in the forefront of your mind, and does not allow you to forget about them.

Reaching our dreams and goals is not a cake-walk. It takes work, being committed, being driven, being a planner, being a believer and more, but it is worth every effort we make. If you successfully practice proper goal setting techniques, there is nothing you can't achieve. Believe and achieve.
