We all know that different beer have different tastes. For instance, coopers sparkling ale is an unfiltered beer that is perfect with steak, whilst blue bottle is a light summer beer perfect with seafood, and the list goes on, with each beer having a specific unique selling point. As any home beer brewer will tell you though, commercial beers are limited to what flavors may be produced because the general public has been brainwashed on what is and isn't supposedly a "beer" taste. Brewing beer at home can help you change all that to your benefit.
Beginner brewers usually start by brewing from kits, and then cloning their favorite commercial beers. This allows you as the brewer to get used to the process of brewing beer that's good to drink. However, as your taste buds mature along with your brewing technique, you may want to start taking your home brewing to the net level by making minor adjustments to your "clone beer" recipes. If you have a strong imagination, and a sense of adventure, you may create some truly remarkable beers that range from chili beer, to honey beer, and even some strange brews that include garlic! Let me give you an example. I had a friend who absolutely loved garlic, he would eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One day he decided to take his passion for garlic to a whole new level by brewing a batch of garlic beer. Personally I thought he was crazy as everyone else did, but he thought it was a great idea and proceeded to brew a garlic beer, and then entered it into an awards contest. For the good fortune of my friend, it didn't taste too horrible, but is stunk to high heaven, causing an emergency evacuation of the large hall where the awards contest was being held... so this would be an example of a flavored beer gone horribly wrong. Using good judgment when making flavored home brew beer is imperative to success; that doesn't mean that brewing beer at home can't be a blast. There are so many options. You could brew a cheese beer, but the outcome would not be favorable. Or, you could add a certain ingredient to your beer, but the beer might not always taste like that ingredient. This is why an imitation flavoring works better more often than the ingredient itself. Brewing flavored beer can be fun if you attempt the process with the right mindset. If a flavor doesn't work, note that down as a learning experience. If a flavor does work, note it down as a celebratory experience. No matter what you do, remember that home beer brewing is all about experimenting, having fun, creating, and drinking boutique beers from the comfort of your own home... remember that and all will be cool!
