Wedding is one of the most important events in every woman's life. Every detail is well planned and organized to make the special occasion perfect; from the decorations, to the wedding invitations, the wedding cake, the wedding favors, the wedding flowers and, of course, the wedding dress.

The tradition of wearing an elaborate, white, floor length gown originated in the Victorian Era. Prior to the rise in popularity of the white wedding dress, wedding gowns were often shorter and used bold colors like black and red. It was Queen Victoria who popularized the style of gown that is now every woman's fairy tale. After she married Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840, women sought to pay homage to the Queen by imitating the style of dress she had chosen.

Nowadays, wedding gowns are usually white to symbolize purity or virginity. However, this was not the real intention of Queen Victoria for choosing white as her gown. She opted to have a white wedding dress to go with the white lace that she wanted to incorporate on it. But whatever may the color white represent, it has been a tradition as a shade for wedding gowns and has been used by millions of brides for years now.

In the twentieth century, wedding dresses were increasingly embellished with detailed embroidery and intricate lace for an elegant and beautiful look. Long trains and veils were added to complete the bride's ensemble. In these days, the more expensive and elaborate the gown, the more a woman was admired for her wealth and status.

But today, in the third millennium, bridal gowns are not a measure of the bride?s social standing. Nowadays, wedding dresses are no longer expensive, and they come in various prices that can go with the bride?s budget.

As time evolved, wedding dresses have modified. But still, more women prefer wearing gowns that were commonly used in the olden times. For them, nothing beats the elegance and natural beauty of a perfect long white gown that truly makes the most special day of their lives more memorable.
