Sleep is important to everyone, especially school children. The average adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep a night but the average school children need 10+. Without proper sleep it hampers their mental and physical development. There are many difficulties at this age with proper sleep such as inability to fall asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, nightmares and even sleep walking.

Without proper sleep it hampers their mental and physical development. There are many difficulties at this age with proper sleep such as inability to fall asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, nightmares and even sleep walking. Here are several red flags to look for if your child is not getting enough sleep. One of the most important factors to notice, is to see if the child is constantly getting in and out of the bed. They may become very frustrated with simple task and show a lack of attention. Several other signs are poor performance in the classroom, arguments and disagreements with peers, and a bad mood will show the results from their lack of sleep. Here are several things that parents can due to cure the lack of sleep in their children. Make sure that the room has a comfortable temperature that is nice for sleeping. It is advisable to get a night light in your child's room, since most kids are afraid of the dark. Although, when using a night light, insure that the light is not to bright that it disturbs the children from sleeping. Too many lights on can and will be distributive to adults sleep; as well as minor children. Electronic devices are used in excess by kids and need to be reduced or eliminated by children during the night hours. These advanced electronic devices are known for stimulating the brain and kids, thus reducing their ability to fall asleep. If the kids are tired they will usually fall asleep with no problems. 2-3 hours of exercise a day (soccer or basketball will work) will zonk out most kids and allow them to sleep restful for the night. Just make sure that they're not exercising right before bedtime. If they watch TV before bed keep an eye on what they watch, if it's a violent or scary program then it could cause them to have nightmares. Young kids have trouble telling what is fake on TV and what is actually real. Even the nightly news can upset kids. Communicating with your child is one of the best practices if you notice that they are having a problem falling asleep. Restful and peaceful nights and better days can be achieved by your children if you address and cure their concerns. As we all were kids at one time; sometimes it is best to remember and use some of the remedies our parents used with us.
