Some scientists believe that the whole idea of detox is a marketing ploy to sell associated products. Indeed there are lots of detox supplements and kits available these days. Typically they contain products with vitamin and nutrient supplements which are supposed to help your body during the process. The notion of detox is appealing because it presents a way of making up for all the bad things you may have put into your body. It allows people to believe in a quick fix which is a more attractive prospect to many than maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is also sold as a way of losing weight but most research shows that the loss is mainly fluids and detox does not burn fat. For this reason many people who lose weight during detox regain it quickly. There is no evidence that detoxing for a short period of time has a long term effect on the body. If you overload your system with fats, sugars, alcohol and caffeine for the majority of the time, then a week of drinking juice and eating vegetables is not going to make any difference. If you are worried that you have an excess of toxins in your system then there are ways to deal with that naturally. Special products, juices, supplements and patches are not needed. You will have to eat a diet of fresh foods, lots of fruit and vegetables and whole grains and drink water. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, smoking and junk food and take regular exercise. The longer you do this for the better. The best way to keep your body healthy and toxin free is to not load it with harmful substances in the first place. When questioned about detox many scientists assert that the best way to help your body after indulgence is to drink water. A well hydrated body will be able to clear unwanted or harmful contaminants out of the body fairly quickly. Even if you drink an excessively large amount of alcohol your body will have cleared it out in less than thirty six hours. Lots of scientists question the need to detox at all. Our bodies have several systems dedicated to expelling contaminants. Literature about detox often cites pollution as a source of toxins in the body, suggesting that the very air we breathe is harming us all the time. While it is true that some particles in the air cause health problems, especially to those who are susceptible such as asthmatics the lungs filter a great deal of the toxins. They never actually reach the blood stream. Detox products include skin patches which are supposed to draw the toxins out of your body. The skin is another of the disposal systems in the body which expel toxins. However application of one of these patches is unlikely to draw out a significant amount of chemicals. There has been no research which shows that they can help the detox process. The truth that the detox marketing industry tries to obscure is that the only proven way to have a healthy body is to eat well and exercise.
