Masai Mara is well renown as the seventh wonder of the world due to the annual wildebeest migration. It is most likely the first word that comes in mind while touring Kenya. The open, untamed savanna is dotted by the occasional acacia trees.

Further south, are the Tsavo and Amboseli national parks. Tsavo National Park is the largest national park in Kenya. It is divided into two by the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and it hosts more over 60 mammal species and more than 1000 plant species. Tsavo is ideal for game viewing safaris. The park is easily reached from Voi town.

To the first time visitor, Mombasa gives an impression of an eclectic mix of old and new, traditional and modern, beauty and practicality. The coastal city which dates back to the 13th century is a trading town that has been a crossroads for Asia, Africa and Europe.

Up the coastline from Mombasa are Malindi and Watamu. At Watamu, the history aficionado will find a centuries old mystery to rile up anyone's imagination. The Gedi ruins are the remains of a thirteenth century Swahili town that was mysteriously abandoned in the seventeenth century. The really puzzling part is that there are no records of Gedi in any of the historical texts of the time. Malindi, just north of Watamu, is famous for its luxurious resorts and white sandy beaches. Malindi boasts some of the best hotels in Kenya.

At Watamu, The Gedi Ruins is the remains of a Swahili town that was located in Gedi in the thirteenth century. Gedi was a thriving community along the jungle coast of East Africa. The town was mysteriously abandoned in the seventeenth century. The Gedi Ruins beckon Kenyan visitors who are searching for historic Kenyan attractions. Just north of Watamu, is Malindi that boasts some of the best hotels in Kenya, lavish resorts and white sandy beaches.

The Vasco de Gama monument in Malindi is a must see, where the late explorers is said to have landed in 1498. The church of St. Xavier Francis, near the monument, it the oldest Christian church in East Africa. If you are feeling more adventure inclined, then the waters of Malindi will provide for excellent snorkeling and diving and some parts of the coast line are good for surfing. Don't miss the coral reefs, they are to die for.
