Eating out is an integral part of every culture. And if you decide to become a hermit and never eat out when losing weight, life will be miserable. The good news is that you don't have to take such drastic measures. So here are some things you can do to stay in shape when eating out: 1. Pick a salad with the right dressing: Dressing isn't necessarily bad for you if you don't abuse it. Instead, have a modest serving of an olive oil vinaigrette. Not only does olive oil fight inflammation, but it has also been shown to help people eat less calories per meal. 2. Avoid high calorie toppings and sauces: You could order an extremely healthy chicken sandwich only to notice that the dressing it comes with has over 300 calories. Likewise, if you pile your salad with saturated fat laden cheeses and toppings, you could end up with a 1,000 calorie meal. 3. Have a diet soda or fizzy water with lemon: Drink this up before your food arrives. The gas within these drinks will bloat your stomach and make you feel fuller before eating. If you are really conscious about the sweeteners in diet sodas, simply have some carbonated water with lemons or limes. 4. Have water dense foods: The best options here are soups with lots of vegetables. You see, water makes you feel full, but it doesn't have any calories. And soups with vegetables have lots of water with minimal caloric load. Thus, if possible, order a soup with your meal. 5. Avoid small side dishes: Just because they are small doesn't mean they don't have calories. In fact, many side dishes can have just as many calories as the main course, especially if it's a sweet dish! So stick with your main meal instead. Dining out doesn't have to set back your fat loss efforts. In fact, if you are smart about your choices, it can actually help the process because you won't feel deprived!
