There are many reasons to donate clothes, and if you want to do so then you need to know exactly how to go about it. The truth is, if we don't know how to donate we might not donate at all! Which is why I've put together this little guide to help you get donating the clothes that you don't wear anymore.

What do I need to donate clothes? You need the clothes themselves (as well as any shoes, accessories, jewellery and so on) and some bags or boxes to put them all in.

What to Do Before You Donate

1) First you need to sort through your wardrobe. This is the hardest part for most people, and you're going to need to be really honest with yourself about the things that don't fit you, the things you never wear, those new items you bought and never used. The chances are that someone, somewhere is going to be able to benefit from these clothes a lot more than you - so donate them now!

2) Now you need to make sure everything's ready for donation. If they are dirty then you could donate them in their current state, but this isn't very eco conscious is it?! You can spare a thought to the volunteers who will be sorting through your clothes by wiping down any dirty shoes, washing smelly or dirty clothes and so on.

3) It's now time to pack your clothes. Try folding them nicely in your bag or box, ready to be donated.

When It Comes to Donation Time

There are so many ways to donate these clothes you've lovingly prepared!

Clothing Bins - These are a convenient option, found on high streets, at supermarkets and more. All you need to do is pop the bag of clothes through the right hole (a box probably won't do).

Charity Shops - A very common and popular option, as this lets you choose the individual cause that you wish to support. Don't just leave the clothes outside of the door, walk in and hand them to the volunteer to ensure they stay in good condition.

Online - The internet really does have a solution to everything, including clothes donatins. There are a number of sites that can help, just do a quick internet search.

Conclusion

If you still aren't convinced about donating clothes then just start reading some eco friendly fashion blogs about some of the benefits. It really isn't hard, and you'll probably end up benefitting a lot of people!
