One of the best things about being a cigar smoker is the fact that you can try so many different types of cigars. You will be able to enjoy the great tobacco tastes from around the world, and this gives you many different options. However, do cigars that come from other countries actually taste different? They do taste different and the variances that they offer in taste are just one of the reasons that so many people smoke cigars and sample tobaccos from around the world. You may wonder, "If tobacco is a plant and all tobacco comes from a tobacco plant, how can it taste different if it is grown somewhere else?" The answer isn't simple. You will find a number of different things that will cause tobacco from different geographic areas to taste different. One of the most obvious factors is the soil. Tobacco can grow in many places around the world, but the soil in each of those various areas is different. Some of the soil may be more alkaline, while soil in another location will have more acidity. This can be a large factor in how the tobacco tastes and how smooth it is. The way in which the tobacco is harvested and cured can be a factor as well. Tobacco picked later in the season will taste different from tobacco picked early. Also, the way in which the manufacturer cures the tobacco can cause taste differences. The most common types of curing are air curing and fire curing. The size of the cigars circumference, known as the ring gauge, can also be a factor. Cigars that have a larger circumference are said to have a full taste. Even if they come from the same crop and the same location, this can factor into the flavor. Also, certain fuel in some lighters can impart a taste to the cigar. Most smokers prefer using butane because they don't get that taste. With so many different types and tastes of tobacco that you will be able to find, you need to make sure that your butane lighter has plenty of fuel and that you have a brand new flint installed! Be sure only to use butane lighters, because you will find that other types of fuel can change the taste of the cigar. Different areas of the world seem to specialize in tobaccos that have characteristics unique to that locale.
