If you want to buy a nose ring, there are certain things you have to consider: 1) Why don't I just use an ear ring? The piercing of the nostril is often further away from the rim of the nose than the ear piercing is from the rim of the ear lobe. if you use a normal ear ring, it could look strange or just be down right uncomfortable. Besides, nose rings or studs or screws are generally inexpensive - just get the real thing, it's not worth the hassle. 2) The Piercing There a 3 different places on the nose to have the piercing done. The most common area is the nostril piercing, but septum piercings as well a nose bridge piercings are gaining in popularity. People with septum piercings often have a bull ring type jewel in and bridge piercings are for studs or gems on either side of the bridge. 3) What Nose Ring Gauge Should I Look For? The gauge of the nose ring tells you how thick the ring will be. If it is a high number, it means it is thin. A lower number means a wider diameter of the ring. For nostril piercing you can look at an 18 or 20 gauge. If you want to make a bolder statement, you can try a 16 or 14 gauge, but you don't want to go bigger than that for you 1st piercing. You can always stretch it later if you wanted a thicker jewel. 4) What Kind of Jewellery Should I Consider? There are so many different options to choose from, but you have to make sure that you buy a nose ring that suits YOU and YOUR personality. You get hoop nose rings, gold nose studs, studs with a gem, screws and many more. Because the nose studs can only carry a small gem, even the diamond studs are very well priced. The metals you have to choose from is mainly, gold(yellow or white), titanium or stainless steel. 5) Nose Ring Infection If you buy a nose ring just understand that you may get some form of an infection from the piercing. The nose breathes all day and because of all the inhalations, it is not squeaky clean. This makes it very likely that an infection could occur. You have to clean the pierced area(do not remove the stud or ring)at least twice a day with a light soap. You should then soak the pierced area in warm salt H2o to help control the swelling. An infection and irritation will be part of the healing process, but make sure you use an iodine based antiseptic to clean it if an infection occurs. Should the pain not decrease or the swelling not reduce, it could mean that there is a more serious infection. Don't be silly then, go to the doctor- you need some antibiotics! To buy a nose ring is a very fashionable thing to do and also very exciting. If you follow the steps above to make the right selection and look after it once done, you are sure to look super cool in no time!
