It's a mind thing. Weight loss a mind thing, surely it can't be? How can weight loss be anything to do with the mind. Weight loss is about calories in vs. calories out and regular exercise, isn't it? The best way to lose weight, examine your mind? I don't think so.

It wasn't until fairly recently that people thought that the mind and the body were separate and that the brain was all powerful. Things have moved on. It is now common knowledge that the body and the brain are important to each other. There is a constant dialogue between the two. They are both interdependent.

It is now the belief in many quarters that the body has its own intelligence. Whether it is interpreted this way or not, it is a source of gathering, processing and supplying information.

Here are some examples: When we don't get enough sleep the body interprets this as an energy deficiency and releases a hormone from the stomach called ghrelin which prompts the brain to make us feel hungry.

There are lots more examples...here's another. When we go on a diet it is common to reduce the intake of calories too quickly. The body interprets this as a signal that there is about to be a famine, and stores all the energy it can. At the same time signalling to the brain that it is hungry. This is a cunning ploy to get us to redouble our efforts to get food.

Making successful weight loss is all about habits. Knowing how you 'work' will help you to be aware of your habits, particularly you bad ones. If you need to lose weight you first need to identify the bad habits that make you fat and then learn new habits, slim habits. Learning new habits will enable you to change and lose weight permanently. In the process of learning new slim habits, if you can learn more about how you function you will find very much easier to maintain your weight loss.
