Inner ear dizziness can affect people of any age, sex and ethnic background. It is among the top complaints that medical doctors see. It is estimated that about 5 million Americans suffer from inner ear dizziness each and every year. And for about 5 percent of these individuals the problems will become chronic in nature lasting more than 3 months. There are a whole range of disorders and problems that can cause dizziness. Equally as many cures or remedies exist for treating vertigo as the causes.

The body is very complicated and many systems contribute to our sense of balance, therefore there are many things that can result in feelings of inner ear dizziness. It could be as simple as an ear infection or dehydration to more severe issues like a tumor or stroke. Among the most common causes of inner ear dizziness is BPPV, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo or benign positional vertigo. The cause of this type of vertigo is well established and it has textbook symptoms. It is usually treated with drugs but more effective methods exist.

The cause of the common form of vertigo called BPPV or positional vertigo is small particles in the inner ear. The inner ear houses the balance receptors and is a fluid filled tube like structure. For whatever reason small particles become loose in the fluid and with certain movements may aggravate the balance receptors. This activates the receptors which in turn send the messages of movement to the brain. Thus we have the feeling of movement when we are not moving, which is dizziness or vertigo.

Inner ear dizziness is described as the sensation of movement when you are still. People may experience the room spinning around them. The aggravating factors of BPPV are very characteristic. It is classic that the vertigo is brought on by movements of the head and positions of the head. Typically rolling over in bed, looking upwards, bending forwards and turning sideways will bring on attacks of vertigo. The associated vertigo is short in duration and should only last less than 10 seconds. It should not last for hours or days. There can be associated nausea, although vomiting is less common.

Drugs are often prescribed to lessen the symptoms. And they usually will. They do this by suppressing the activity of the nervous system so you feel less dizzy and less nausea. But they do little for the cause of the problem, which is the loose particles in the inner ear. So medication really only treats the symptoms and not the cause of the problem. So people are tricking themselves into thinking they are fixed while taking medication. If the root cause of the problem is corrected, then the symptoms will be addressed .

The good news for people with inner ear dizziness is that effective and safe methods exist that can fix their balance problems. These do not involve drugs or surgery but a medically invented and backed technique that has a great success rate. But for some reason it is not known by many practitioners and usually takes a back seat to medication.
