Gold is a precious metal that has been around us for years. It is considered a great asset to own and also an important element in our lives and in our economies. The majority of the European gold is produced in Spain, Finland and Sweden. But new mines have emerged in the mining industry such as those in Turkey and Greece. The mines in France have nearly exhausted all the precious metals reserves this is why they are set to close in the near future. The process of mining in Europe has begun a very long time ago. The Romans have invented a very special method of mining valuable metals such as gold and silver by using the power of water. This was called hydraulic mining. The water used to carry out the rock and other debris. The huge amounts of water were supposed to slice the earth and expose the bedrock and the gold veins that might have been there. The hydraulic method was developed by the Romans in Spain in 25 AD in order extract the large quantities of gold that were found there. The largest site in Spain at that time was Las Medullas. In order to gather the necessary water to complete the mining, seven aqueducts were built to tap local rivers. Another place where mining began from early years is Britain. But as soon as the Romans came, the mining process changed completely. Due to their greed for gold, the Romans fastly discovered that Britain was full of precious metal such as gold, silver, lead and tin and started exhausting the local reserve. Gold has been and will be one of the most important assets we can own. The precious metal is and will be a great way to invest in our future. In our days, the financial turmoil, the inflation and the continuous fluctuations in paper currencies have pushed people into investing in gold. It is known that the yellow metal is the best hedge against inflation. This is why it is good to invest in it.
