Full Home Automation is no longer a concept of the future like George Jetson's home, but is here and available today. Homeowners today expect their Home Automation system to be a completely integrated package. The systems of today can handle the inside and outside lighting, entertainment system, window coverings, climate control, pool, Jacuzzi, Internet and alarm system from a single control unit.
Most people are tired of the enormous array of electronic gadgets on the market today that require ten remote controls to run them. They are also tired of the hours needed to learn and master the new electronic device they just bought. How many electronic devices are underutilized or never used because of a lack of understanding of how to operate it? How many people never use all the functions of their TV or DVD player because it is just too complicated to understand or use? Nowadays a home automation systemis about one-button control, programmed preset operations, timed operations and sensor-activated systems. One-button operation or programmed presets, for example, can control all the lights in a room and set a mood with the touch of a single button on an iPhone. The same home automation presets could also set the natural light level by raising or lowering shades, blinds and shutters. Today, a home automation scenario might look like this: The homeowner leaves for work. After they have left for work, the home automation system turns off all nonessential systems and waits for the sun to rise to a level that the shades need to be lowered to prevent damage to expensive artwork in the living room. The system knows that it's Tuesday and prepares the home to receive the housekeeper by turning up the lights, and setting the appropriate heat/cooling level. In large homes the home automation system can be programmed to adjust the HVAC system, raise or lower shades at a certain time of day to protect fine fabric or artwork from the sun. The timed feature of a home automation system may be programmed to set the lighting mood, adjust the window shades and turn on the entertainment system just before the home owner is expected home from work. When a Home Automation system is fully integrated with all of a home's electronics, lighting, and HVAC systems, amazing things happen. Home automation systems today are about combining all the complex electronics packages together into a simple and seamless system easily controlled from a single control.
