For all of the authentic autographed guitars in the world, there are probably two or three times as many fakes out there. It's very difficult to prove the legitimacy of any signature, and with so many people making a living off of fake collectibles, many wonder how they'll ever really know if their item is legitimate or not.
For all of the authentic autographed guitars in the world, there are probably two or three times as many fakes out there. It's very difficult to prove the legitimacy of any signature, and with so many people making a living off of fake collectibles, many wonder how they'll ever really know if their item is legitimate or not. There are a limited amount of reputable dealers as well as autograph authenticators that know an "authentic signature". These people like my self are pushing to strip these forgeries out of the market, but on the other hand we are going against professional artists that spent many hours perfecting the fake signature. Autographed guitars are one of the rarest pieces of memorabilia to get your hands on, because they are the most difficult type of collectible to get signed. Artists sign thousands of posters, CD's, LP's, and other small scale items throughout their careers. However, getting an artist to sign a guitar is not as easy of an accomplishment. However, these items do exist, and can be found with authentic signatures, if you know where to look. About 70% of the products found online are usually fakes of some sort. These can be copies, forgeries, or even just ads with no real memorabilia to back them up. Many memorabilia dealers and collectors are banding together in an attempt to stop the people who are succeeding without consequence at selling this fake material. However, the fraud artists do still exist, and will continue as long as they are profiting from their scams. Too many people get overexcited when they find autographed guitars with their favorite band's signatures on it. Then they often don't take the necessary steps to determine the validity of the item they're purchasing; they just take the seller's word for it and spend money on something that might be fake. If you're interested in buying autographed guitars, you need to ensure that you are purchasing them from reputable dealers or sellers, and that the product you're getting is authentic. If you're not certain, don't invest the money. When it comes down to spending lots of money on signed memorabilia, make sure its 100% authentic, so it's worth the investment. Authenticity is always important when is comes down to collecting and buying autographed guitars. There are many scam artists and forgeries that are circulating the market and you can never be too careful viewing the legitimacy of signatures on signed memorabilia.
