One could own homes within the vicinity of golf courses and golf clubs. Two of the best golf courses in The Woodlands are the Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio golf courses. Tom Fazio golf course has even been voted as the "Best Private Course in Houston" in the Houston Chronicle's Golf Guide 2010, April edition. Because of these golf courses' excellence, many well known publications are voting for these in various polls they are conducting. The Jack Nicklaus course is located in the gated community of Carlton Woods while the Tom Fazio Championship golf course is situated in the Carlton Woods Creek side. Carlton Woods is one of the only two gated areas in the US with a private Nicklaus-Fazio tandem. The Woodlands Country Club Palmer Golf Course or the Deacon Golf Course is a 9-hole "Deacon" course at T Course facility opened in 1990.
