The task of getting car insurance is as easy as ever. There are several options in order to gain quotes ranging from the internet to walking into a shop. With so much choice on offer it's handy to know what to look for in order to be able to compare car insurance quotes. The easiest way of all to compare and get quotes quickly is through the internet

A good way to find your feet on the internet is to use a comparison website, this allows you to get a feel for the price of a quote for your specific needs. After filling in a short form, the website will return a list of results which will include information such as the type of quote on offer, the price of the quote, the provider and the main benefits of the cover.

Instead of visiting a comparison website you can instead visit the provider of the insurance directly. An advantage of this is that you can, in general, fill in a form which will require more information which will allow you to obtain a quote that is even more specifically tailored to your needs and the addition of such information can in some circumstances reduce the price of your quote.

In addition to getting a comprehensive quote you generally will also have up to thirty days to decide on whether the policy is right for you allowing you time to sample other providers in the market. You can also customize the quote even more which allows you to remove or add any other benefits the provider offers such as lost key cover or free break-down recovery.

At present there are three main types of car insurance, there are others which branch off these categories, but the main three are fully comp, third party and third party fire and theft.

Fully comprehensive as it is known covers all parties in events of incidence. The provider will assist in the payment of repairs to your own vehicle and that of the other party. As a result of this level of cover this type of policy is the most expensive.

Third party only covers damage to other vehicles and other owners property. Any damage to your own vehicle must be paid for by yourself. As a result this is the cheapest insurance available

Third party fire and theft is a middle ground between both types of cover mentioned above offering some level of protection for your own vehicle whilst ensuring other vehicles are covered as well. Third party fire and theft covers your vehicle in the event of a fire or if it is stolen meaning that although you will still have to pay for damages if you have an accident, elements that are further out of your control will ensure your liability is low.

When comparing different quotes you should make yourself aware of the amount of excess that will need to be paid for any damage caused. Higher premiums in general will demand lower excess and as a result you can alter the total price of the insurance by changing this figure. The higher the excess the more you will have to contribute before the insurance company assists in paying for the damage.

When comparing car insurance quotes the things you should note are the total price of the cover, the type of insurance being offered, i. E. Fully comp, third party etc. And the associated benefits with each one. Remember that with these quotes you have in general thirty days in which to accept a quote so you will have plenty of time to consider the quote and compare it with others.
