One of the favorite choices of Medicare Enrollees who want rich benefits in their Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan is the Plan F. This is because of all of the Medicare Supplement Plans approved by Medicare currently, Plan F has the highest level of coverage All of the standardized plans are required by Medicare to offer certain basic benefits. Each of the ten Supplement plans has unique additional benefits. With Plan F all of the boxes are checked. Plan F covers the Part A deductible and all of the co-insurances under Part A. This year the Part A deductible is $1132. It is worth noting that this is not an annual deductible, rather it is per benefit period. A benefit period begins when you are admitted to a hospital and ends after you have been out of the hospital for 60 days. You could be subject to several Part A deductibles in a year. Also covered are the Part B deductible and the 20% Part B co-insurance. One of the most meaningful coverages under a Plan F is called "Part B excess" What is Part B excess? It is any amount over what the Medicare approved amount is for medical services. Medicare will only pay 80% of the amount that they approve for a visit or procedure covered under Part B. Most Medicare Supplement Plans will pay the other 20%. Providers can accept your Medicare and not accept Medicare assignment. This means that you will be responsible for the difference. That difference is the Part B excess. Because Plan F covers that excess not only will you never receive a bill but you also will not have to make treatment decisions based on financial concerns. Also included is a Foreign Emergency Travel Benefit. Medicare doesn't cover any medical expenses outside of the U.S. Your Plan F will provide limited coverage for emergency medical expenses while traveling abroad. You may still want to consider a Short Term Travel Medical Policy. Beneficiaries who choose Plan F for their Medicare Supplement Plan have almost no out of pocket expenses and enjoy the highest level of coverage available.
