This article will look into 4 areas in California and what makes each of these different places unique and special. The 1st city would have to be the capital of the state and that is Sacramento. It is located on the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in what is known as the Central Valley. Sacramento has been named as being one of the most livable cities in addition to one of the most integrated by Time magazine a few years ago. Sacramento was founded after a Swiss pioneer known as John Sutter came into the area. He created what is known as Sutter's Fort in 1840 and planted more than 2000 fruit trees starting the agricultural industry there. Once gold was located there, a lot of people headed into this area too to try to strike it rich themselves raising the population greatly. It is now thought of as a very diverse city. LA is another special city in the state of California and is also the largest one. It was originally founded by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve in 1781 and became part of Mexico in 1821. Following the Mexican American war it became part of the United States in 1948 with Mexico keeping the Baja peninsula. With Hollywood being a part of LA it is known as the entertainment capital of the world with the strong motion picture industry, television production and music industry all being densely located in the city. If you want to see a celebrity, head to the city of angels where so many of them live and work. Because it is the southern section of the state, the weather is often warm and sunny and the beaches are used year round. San Diego has often been called the perfect weather city because the weather and temperatures stay in the mid 70's and sunny year round. It is a popular spot for vacationers to visit because of that weather in addition to the wonderful beaches. San Diego also has several tourist attractions situated there such as San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park and Sea World. The location of the city is also near Disney too. The last area is Olympic Valley which has the terrific ski resort named Squaw Valley situated there. It was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and is right in the Lake Tahoe area which borders California and Nevada. It is part of the gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountains and gets more than 40 feet of snow in the winter making it ideal for skiing and other winter activities.
