Nobody looks forward to the day that comes like clockwork every year when they have to renew their auto insurance policy. We don't really want to do it, but it's important that we do. There is a silver lining to this dark cloud, however. You can get budget car insurance that will cover you for everything that more expense insurance would.

The first type of insurance you need to think about is personal liability insurance. Since this is a legal requirement for all drivers, there is no way you can avoid it. Even if you have never been at fault in an accident, you can still be involved in one. If it is discovered that you were driving without liability insurance, you will receive a fine or even have your car confiscated.

There are more than one type of liability insurance. Bodily liability insurance is the one that covers injury to another when you are involved in an accident that you have caused. It does not cover injuries to you, your vehicle or the other party's vehicle.

Property damage liability insurance covers damage to another person's property, including their car and other property, including their home or business premises. Once again, it does not cover damage to your property.

In theory, liability insurance should be all anybody needs. One driver is at fault in any accident. Therefore, the driver who is responsible for the accident should be the one to pay your damages. However, even the best drivers occasionally cause accidents. Just one accident could turn out to be very expensive, as anyone who has faced a trip to the body shop can testify. Even a relatively minor accident will usually cost you far more than your insurance would have cost.

If you have a new or near new car, you should seriously consider getting collision insurance. This is the type of insurance you need to cover damage to your vehicle if you are the one who causes an accident.

Some people mistakenly think that comprehensive insurance covers damage to your car in any kind of accident. Actually, though, comprehensive insurance only covers your car in the case of theft or naturally occurring damage, such as fire or floods.

The above examples are just some of the different types of auto insurance. Make sure you have read about them all and have decided what you need before you start your search for budget car insurance. It really is possible to save a lot and still get complete coverage if you shop around and compare prices.
