There is a lot of competition in the car insurance industry. It is perhaps the biggest insurance branch after home insurance because we replace our cars so regularly. While it might be said all insurance companies are the same policy wise, the same can't be said for their service and claims handling.

The reputation in the car insurance industry is that claims will be handled slowly if at all. Consumers have consequently become reluctant to take out comprehensive cover, thinking it's no longer worth the trouble and preferring instead to take their chance with safe driving. The recent spate of car insurance commercials is meant to bolster this reputation by showing situations in which insurers literally come to the rescue of the insured.

The fact is every registered vehicle on the road is insured. It is compulsory to have third party insurance to protect other motorists in case of accidental injury, however comprehensive insurance, once a traditional add on is waning in popularity. It is increasingly expensive to boot.

One of my favorite commercials for car insurance shows a motorist accidentally putting the car in reverse and backing into their swimming pool. Nobody is hurt and within minutes the insurance assessor is on the scene reassuring the driver that everything is going to be alright.

Normally insurance is a very dry subject so the advertisers who have put together these spots have done a good job in my humble opinion. Their vision of course is to reverse the trend towards comprehensive insurance coverage by instilling brand confidence back in the market.

It's important when comparing insurance companies to seek as much advice as possible from friends, family or strangers about their experiences with filing car insurance claims. The best referral is one you can trust. Never rely on television advertising.
