Almost all of us have been stopped by the cops for speeding before. Most of the time we get stopped because we were speeding, right? But, once we get the ticket and see the size of the fine they want from us we begin to rationalize ways that we can get out of it.
Almost all of us have been stopped by the cops for speeding before. Most of the time we get stopped because we were speeding, right? But, once we get the ticket and see the size of the fine they want from us we begin to rationalize ways that we can get out of it. I'm going to let you in on a secret. It's possible to get a speeding ticket dismissed. I do it all the time. I'm a Seattle traffic attorney. Most of my time is devoted to helping people just like you wriggle out of those annoying speeding tickets. I win, though, because I know what works. Here are some examples of what doesn't work. They haven't calculated the speed limit in the correct way. I must admit, this one was even new to me. I've only heard it once, but I thought it was novel enough to put on here. The rule isn't that you must go the correct speed limit, but the posted speed limit. So if it says 30, you have to go 30. Going with the flow of traffic. This is obviously a classic. Either some judge felt bad for someone on a particular day and dismissed a ticket for this or the idea just caught on for some strange reason. Take this one to court. The judge will listen like they care, then find you were speeding. My car and my life required me to speed. Again, we've all kind of heard this in one form or another. Someone was about to hit me and I just wanted to get out of there or some variation on a theme. The only problem with this defense is that if you could speed up to get away you could also slow down. This is where the judge goes with the case. The cop made a mistake. How hard do you think it is to point a gun at a car and shoot it? That's what cops do with radar guns. And they do it all day every day. They rarely, if ever, get cars confused. And judges hear this one all day. And it doesn't work. There was no way I was speeding. I never speed. Problem with this one is that you've got a cop who says you were speeding. You are the one facing the fine, the cop probably doesn't know you from Adam. Who do you think the court's going to believe?
